Basic Light

Surface Texture

In this part I'll cover two basic surface rules when dealing with light. That is; How light deflects off the surface. The two basic surfaces are smooth, and rough. The graphic below shows the two surfaces and a scale. As noted in the graphic, smooth surfaces have a wider value range and are more reflective. Surfaces like chrome, and mirrors, and glass are good examples. Rough surfaces are duller and have no reflectivity. Examples would be: rock, tree bark, cement, etc.
